Today at Ebay . . . Retro Sofa (Groovy)

On some level, I think this is hideous. But it's got great lines and the color is quite dynamic. It represents an interesting challenge and could be fantastic in the right context. I'm seeing a vision of this sofa in a room with blue walls, Louis XVI side chairs, lucite lamps and an oriental rug with complentary colors. But I'm writing this at 2 a.m., so who knows?

What do you think?

Today at Ebay . . . The Ultimate Mid-Century Table

This table is pretty amazing, and it's quite a stylish space-saver for those of use in spacially challenged homes. Here's what the seller says about it:

"Being offered for your consideration is a rare mid-century end table designed by John Keal for Brown Saltman. The compartment of the table contains three folding tables that pull in and out. It has beautiful grain (excuse the glare in some of the photos), the table itself is in excellent condition with very little wear. The three folding tables need some TLC, a few of the pegs that cover the screws are missing, they have been repaired over the years, unfortunately some repairs involved additional screws, and they are a little wobbly - please look at the last couple of photos to see the worst of it. The mechanics all work fine. Overall a really nice looking and functional set! It measures 28" x 18" x 20.75" tall."

Today at Ebay . . . Paul McCobb Origami Chairs

When this chair first started showing up again, I really hated it. But then I found out that my favorite, Paul McCobb designed it, and my opinion started to change.

This sudden turn-around poses an interesting question about what factors really make up one's preferences. Why do some people like shabby chic (I just threw up a little in my mouth) while others prefer mid-century?

What is "taste"?

Today at Ebay . . . Sweeeeet! Mid-Century Chaise

This chaise even matches my font, which is hot.

I dig everything about this chaise. Here's what the seller says:

"You are looking at a rare original mid-century chaise lounge in impeccable condition, fully refinished/reupholstered and looking extremely inviting & comfortable! The chaise sits on a wood frame with straight legs at the front (and with brass accents) and slanted legs on the back (see close-up below). Nothing has been changed from the original design. The wood frame has been refinished in dark brown stain (not lacquer). The upholstery is an icy-blue imported 100% cashmere, very rich and smooth, again super comfortable. Black buttons and piping were added for contrast. The dimensions are 54" long x 29" deep x 30" tall (seat is at 16" high). One of a kind, no doubt!"

No doubt is right. I can imagine this out on the sunporch or maybe the corner of the bedroom, its soft and comfy cashmere contrasting with its icy blue color and almost militant lines. And brass legs? I love them. Brass is back baby. So avoid brass as a rule (even though I haven't). But bend the rule for this piece.
