Reader Response . . . Subodh Gupta's Work

I received an email and photo from Beth today regarding the recent story on skull trends. Many of the readers disliked the trend (which I never noticed). In fact, Beth left a comment on the original story saying:

"I'm in the minority here, but like skulls. I have the Alexander McQueen skull scarf which might have been the one you looked at. Skulls add a cheeky darkness when done the right way. Not pink, not everywhere, but as beautiful momento moris."

She wanted us to see a sculpture, Very Hungry God, by Indian artist Subodh Gupta, which is made out of Indian cooking pots and which, in the accompanying image, is floating in front of François Pinault's Palazzo Grassi on Venice's Grand Canal.

Thanks, Beth. I think it's magnificent, and to Beth's point, it doesn't hurt to be reminded of our mortality, especially in a way that's non-threatening (which is especially important in an age of war, gruesome violence in video games and on and on [and on]).

I leave you on this beautiful Monday with a look at some of Gupta's other work.
