This Week at . . . Alan Robandt (excellent showroom in Buchanan, Michigan)
I love this vintage mannequin at Buchanan’s new showroom Alan Robandt, because it perfectly illustrates the cycle of chic. Classical forms reinterpreted for utilitarian purposes become junk then objets d’art then antiques, in and out of fashion over and over and on and on and on (again).
Former Chicago antique dealer and new Buchanan resident Alan Robandt possesses not only the “eye” for what’s interesting and beautiful but also the perspective that comes from running his antique business Alan Robandt & Co. in Chicago for nearly two decades; it’s that combination which takes this Buchanan antiques showroom to the next level.
It could be jarring, the juxtaposition of mannequins alongside mid-century modern furniture alongside French antiques alongside anatomy charts and industrial “stuff”, and in any other shop it would be. Instead it’s seamless, it’s art.
Continued . . .
You wouldn’t find this mix at Alan Robandt Antiques, but it’s just Alan Robandt now – modernized, streamlined but still classic. You must go; travel now to Buchanan (there’s much to see in Harbor County). Take some time to talk – it’ll be the best part of your experience (and that’s saying something).
Alan Robandt is located in resurgent Buchanan. Call to make an appointment or according to Alan,”I’m usually around during the week and cell phone number is on the front door.”"
114 E. Front Street. 312-560-7482.
