Open House: Billy and Julie’s Upper West Side digs

I held an Emmy last summer – an actual shiny, 18K gold-plated Emmy. (It had a nice heft to it). It happened in a flash. One minute I was chatting with Julie Pinson in her and husband Billy Warlock’s Upper West Side walk-up apartment, and the next I was lunging at her 2010 Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy (for her role as Janet on As the World Turns). I apologized profusely, and Julie took it in stride (and even offered me one of her cupcakes), but picking up somebody’s Emmy without  first asking for permission is, at best, a faux pas. Billy also won an Emmy for his role as Frankie on Days of Our Lives, but his statue was displayed high up on a bookshelf, tantalizingly close but out of reach. After Days, Billy had starring roles on many shows, including Baywatch, General Hospital and most recently, One Life to Live (where his evil brother, Eli, killed him last week). Home means something different when you know that your character might be killed off or disappear or undergo massive reconstructive surgery. (It happens). Or because your show gets cancelled like As the World Turns did earlier this year. A framed 2007 USA Today piece about their L.A. home hangs in Billy’s den, and it sounds like they miss it there, but now that they’re both auditioning, they don’t really know where they’ll ultimately live. “We follow the work,” says Julie. Their things provide the continuity: the vintage French liquor poster that Billy’s had since the 80′s, Julie’s pink kitchen appliances (which she uses to make her gorgeous, delicious cupcakes) and of course, their Emmys – possibly the ultimate home accessory. (I want one). Click here for Julie’s website. Thanks Billy and Julie!

Thanks to my friend Cady McClain for referring Julie, her As the World Turns cast mate. Click here for Cady’s Open House.

According to Billy, the woman in this vintage French poster has been with him longer than any woman other than his mom. I dig it.

All kidding aside, I want an Emmy!  It would give my new den some pizazz. But seriously, can you imagine how much of an honor it would be to win an one? Acting is a tough business. To not only make a good living but also to win a frickin’ Emmy for doing it must be amazingly validating. Not to mention awesome.

Billy’s Emmy. (On a side note, I’ve been noticing Foo Dogs a lot lately. Coincidence?)

I like the whole vibe of this place. The antique fireplace with the brick and the stairs to the two bedrooms on the second floor . . . reminds me of a coach house.

Props were sold for next to nothing when Julie’s show, As the World Turns, was cancelled earlier this year. She scored this bar cart for a song.

More props.

Julie makes AMAZING cakes and cupcakes. They’re delicious and gorgeous. Check out this cake:

I’ll take this pumpkin over a real one any day.

Julie and Martha.

Cool.

Great photo. Very glam.

  1. I am very impressed with their home. I love how unpretentious it is, yet very stylish. I am rarely impressed with celebrity homes as most of the time they don’t seem very personal, but this one I love.
A pat on the back for merging design and being real.

  2. What a great place. Comfortable and unintimidating. My favorite photo is of the brick wall in the kitchen with the books and lamp.

  3. Well lo and behold, it’s AJ Quartermaine and Dr. Eve. I love love love this place. So warm and cozy! That poster is a statement piece!

Your home is absolutely gorgeous and I love all your decorations. Julie, did you do this yourself or have a decorator? Hey, I notice quite a few foo dogs. I have quite a collection myself. I inherited them from a friend. I live in the Midwest but just love NY. I miss ATWT terribly. It’s been part of most of my life. Isolina

  14. I feel like part of my life is missing since they took As the World Turns off
the air. Why did they take it off? It
was doing so good and was a good way to
make the day worthwhile. Wish they would put it back on.

  15. Your home is very warm and cozy – love it! Miss you guys on as the world turns – I now went to watching Young and the Restless.

  18. I loved ATWT – and I miss it sooooooo much, I really enjoyed Janet (she was one of my favorite characters!) I will really miss my daytime soaps! Now I just turn the TV off in the afternoon (do not like game shows). Oh and by the way love your bedroom!!!

  19. Julie and Billy

Thought I would say hi and thank you for sharing your home online with the fans.
Julie it was great meeting you last year at the ATWT fan club luncheon and hope to meet you again in the near future.

Billy such a shame you couldn’t make it to this years ATWT luncheon cause I would loved to had met you as well, but just wasn’t meant to be. Maybe someday I’ll run into you both someplace in the Big Apple and if not well I wish you both the best of luck in new things coming your way in the future.

    Take care.
    Nikki.

  20. What a great place – so jealous of the prop buys!

  21. Love the house pictures!! I saw the last episodes and did not know you were also together in real life! I really miss As The World Turns!! Maybe they will bring it back someday. If they can bring back Melrose Place they can bring back a classic like ATWT, they can just pick up where they left off!

  22. These are two of my favorite actors! They’re so talented and gorgeous and they’ve also got great taste!
