Tim Lally’s kitchen

Last week I met with landscape architect Tim Lally at his Lincoln Square 2-flat. Tim’s gorgeous, lush back yard is approximately the same size as my ugly little patch of grass, and I was hoping to pick up a few landscaping tricks from the expert. During our chat, I asked to see his apartment, and I liked the kitchen so much I asked if I could snap a few photos. Rather than gut the space, Tim kept the original sink, cabinets, tile wall splash, appliances. In fact, Tim didn’t do much more than paint and replace a small section of counter top with beige granite. The happy result is a testament to the power of editing. Less is often more. In addition to maintaining the space’s existing charm and character, working with the original details is also a much greener option. Speaking of green, keep watching for photos of Tim’s garden. Love this – especially the green tile!
Love the tile and I am always a fan of white kitchens. That is also the nicest organization on a hanging pot rack I’ve ever seen.
That’s so cool and so funny, cause I just picked that exact color tile for MY kitchen, mimicking that green milkglass color….wish mine was original!!
I’ve known TIm for years, and can attest that his kitchen is every bit as charming as the photos suggest.
But, if you think the kitchen is charming, you should really see the garden. Hey Tate, how about convincing our friend to share a couple of pix of his backyard? It’s an idyllic sanctuary, particularly if you have a chilled martini in hand -trust me.
Garden pics are on the way Scott!
Karen, your kitchen sounds cool. I’d love to see the new version. Is it the favorite room in your home? If so, email me a pic to be entered in my next contest (which I’ll post more about soon).
That green tile is awesome and I love the stove!
The stove is pretty cool Hannah, but the green tile and free standing antiques are my favorite elements.
