This Week: The Painted Lady (Plus: Contest!)

When I visited The Painted Lady recently, the most expensive item in the store was a gorgeous French antique upholstered headboard. While at $1500, it’s not a garage sale steal, it’s priced far less than comparable pieces at most antique stores and reproductions at the big chains. Everything has been priced fairly at The Painted Lady, where there are more than a few accessories available for less than $20 and most of the antique furniture pieces can be had for far less than $500. For a nominal extra fee, owner Beth Brace will even customize the furniture to your specs. Beth recently hired Anne to manage the shop so that she has more time to do what she does best – hitting the street in pursuit of the proverbial ladies, beaten and battered pieces just waiting to be painted. And if you tell her what’s on your wish list, she’ll put it on her shopping list. How’s that for service? A little French country, a little shabby chic, The Painted Lady should be on your destination list the next time you visit Bucktown. But wait, there’s more! Click here to read about the contest The Painted Lady is sponsoring right here on Strange Closets. The entry with the most votes wins its submitter any one item priced under $100 at The Painted Lady. Thanks Beth and Anne!

  1. Oh yes, I love this style of decor.

  2. The silver painted bed on the upper level was especially pretty, but instant love with everything in the store.
