This Week: Thomas Jolly Home & Garden

Thanks to a group of Chicago antique dealers, Buchanan, Michigan’s once nearly abandoned downtown has been transformed into a charming design destination. For example, Thomas Jolly Home & Garden’s artfully assembled mix of antiques, notable mid-century pieces and gorgeous reproductions would make it a must-stop destination even if it were the only shop on Front Street. But Jolly’s shop is located within a block of Alan Robandt‘s fantastic showroom and Joe Paolucci and Tom Hitchcock’s colorful, modern shop Front. Southwest Michigan is less than a two hour drive from downtown Chicago, so I usually make a day of it, starting in New Buffalo and then zip-zapping around until I’ve seen all my favorite shops, including Da Barn, Marco Polo and Ipso Facto. But come to think of it, practically every shop on Red Arrow Highway offers at least one find. For your convenience, I Googled a possible route, but please keep in mind, I’m not a map guy, so I recommend you make your own. Click here for more information and shop reviews. And click here to see past Michigan Open Houses. Have fun and drive carefully.
