City Decor: Rome’s billboards, graffiti and political posters

Don’t hesitate if you want to take a picture of a particular political poster, billboard or even graffiti tag in Italy, because especially in Rome, there’s an all out war for your attention with various groups pasting over, scratching out or spray painting each other’s messages. In the U.S., Shepard Fairey’s instant classic Obama poster was a rarity in a sea of boring political yard signs, but in Italy, even the local candidates amp up the proverbial volume with bold colors, fonts and language. Don’t try this at home! Imagine roommates, spouses or family members engaged in an all-out decoration war. While that might be too extreme for real-life living, it might make good TV. Picture Buchanan, Michigan antiques dealer Alan Robandt coming home to find that White Attic owner Terry Ledford has painted his eighteenth century armoire a bright shade of turquoise (Pantone’s hot color for 2010). Meanwhile Turn the Tables Studio owner Melly Schwartz is in the next room stenciling the eco-friendly dining room table designed by Verde Design Studio‘s Michele Fitzpatrick. Throw artist Michael Thompson and Axis by Evelyn owner Evelyn Daightman into the mix, and you’ll have a killer reality show.

This is crazy!
Love the reality show idea! Thanks.
Is the picture with the giant billboard covering all the windows real? That is truly crazy.
Wow,, great photos,,
In particular The photo of the beautiful architecturally significant limestone building, with corbels under the window sills and on the other side some- spray painted graffiti,,, it breaks my heart ;-/

Love these, thanks!
Wow and we think elections in North America get “down and dirty”. We are genteel and civilized around these parts compared to this passionate electorate. Great photos, go Fatti!
