This Week: Seagrass Home (North Shore)
Seagrass Home is the kind of shop I was expecting to find when I vacationed in Provincetown a few years ago, but unfortunately tourism had driven up rents to such a point that most of the good shops had long ago succumbed to those selling trinkets and t-shirts (survival of the fittest). Which was disappointing, because disliking the beach the way I do, shopping was pretty much the only reason I had any interest in the coastal berg. Having no real backup plan, I tried going to the beach, but I was disappointed to learn doing so required taking a shuttle bus to the middle of nowhere, walking through what felt like a mile of hot sand and then climbing over a bluff before finally arriving at the hot, humid and buggy Atlantic. Things improved the next day when I found an artificial, properly chlorinated swimming pool in a resort with a bar and a nice ocean view. Which is where I spent much of the next week; I even smoked a cigarette.
My friend Janis loves the beach and hears the highly charged ocean ions are good for people, but I would’ve gladly traded them for a cool, beach-y store in a quaint little downtown far away from sand and surf. That’s why I was glad to find Seagrass Home in downtown Winnetka. Seagrass Home (or SGH as the kids might call it) was filled with pillows upholstered in interesting fabrics, furniture, art and even salvaged artifacts. The list goes on and on, but my favorite piece was a men’s watch with a band of wood links much like a regular stainless steel one. The watch was handsome (oddly so), traditional yet strange – pretty much my favorite combination of features. When I left Seagrass after my first visit, I strolled down the street window shopping, happy to be wearing shoes and content in the knowledge that air conditioning was just a storefront away.

Okay, this place looks dangerous. I can see myself spending way too much on X-mas presents. There are a few things I saw that I liked for me too. Nice merchandising too!!
What a lovely store! I’m not into the beach theme for my own home, but I love these kinds of shops.
It reminds me of a post I had recently about shopping in the lakes area of northeast Indiana.

Oooh, I could go to this store and not even have to pay for a beach vacation. It is an ocean lover’s fantasy spot.
This store looks wonderful;, I hope it does well I could do a lot of damage. I would love to come in and check it out/Thanks, Scott. Janna
