This Week: Pavilion Antiques
Dusk had taken hold when I visited Pavilion Antiques last week, and lit as it was by lamps, overheads and light sculptures, the corner shop glowed from the street. For some reason, when illuminated so, Pavilion’s white walls and floor and its high design, its nickel, lucite and brass, seemed like how Woody Allen circa 1978 might interpret heaven in one of his films. Of course, Pavilion’s not heaven, but with their emphasis on French, Italian and Scandinavian 20th century design, owners Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus speak with a unique and commanding voice in Chicago’s design scene. I mighty like their gospel, and I think you will too brothers and sisters. Make the pilgrimage soon.

I love the look of the shop, and the styles are distinctive. But, are they antique?
If I could wake up on Christmas morning and find that lovely sculptural lounge chair under my tree I’d be the happiest girl in Chicago!
Paula, I’m so with you. I love that piece so much. It’s crazy comfortable.
Wayne, I’ve noticed that even many of the very traditional antique dealers are beginning to sell more contemporary or mid-century pieces.
One of my favorite shops in the city!
Mine as well. Beautiful pieces and so unique!
This store is truly special and unique. Their one-of-a-kind, designer pieces are art and function in one. The knowledge of Deborah and Neil will help anyone figure out what piece or pieces are right for them. Go, shop, buy! You won’t regret it. I never have. My place looks so cool with many of their pieces in it.
