Update: Post 27
Post 27 is a damn good store. Husband and wife owners Barkley Hoffman and Angela Finney have perfected the art of retail communication, not the kind used by the large chains, which use layout and design to suggest one aisle over another, to seduce their patrons to buy, buy, buy. Instead Barkley and Angela use their entire showroom, the mix of furniture, the choice of upholstery and the local artisans they represent to to tease and to tickle, to flirt and to question. Intellectual retail communication. Shocking isn’t it?
Almost as shocking as a good TV variety show. It takes a very good producer to make sure that the guest stars work well with the series regulars, that the sets look fresh and visually stimulating and that the show somehow stays familiar enough to appeal to most while pushing the envelope enough to keep themselves interested and attract the desireable 18 – 34 demographic. Post 27 accomplishes the same objectives in a retail setting, and they make it look easy.
Continued . . .
When I stopped in recently, Angela gave me a tour, pointing out the different vendors and a few of the pieces she’d personally worked on, including a pair of mid-century wing chairs upholstered in sixties-era red, charcoal and gray American Airlines fabric (pictured above). Is it even possible to create a cooler furniture piece? How about a white fiberglass sofa with cushions upholstered in gray mohair and tufted with square houndtooth buttons (how about them buttons?) topped off with a matching accent pillow (pictured below). And lest we forget the last but not least, how about a sexy ottoman with a thick, multi-colored belt (complete with buckle, yours for only $185), one of the upholstery goddess’s signature design elements.
In addition to a very finely curated selection of mid-century furniture and a kiss of kitsch, Post 27 represents many local designers like my friend, furniture designer Bladon Conner, jewelry by Dollybird and eco-friendly products from Aaron Pahmier’s Green Sawn. I shan’t try to name everybody they represent, but I encourage you to visit their website for more information. And please do pay Post 27 a visit in the not-too-distant future; if you ask nicely, perhaps Angela will do her infamous Tarzan yell.

I just made my first visit to Post 27 last month and they had really great stuff! I can see making return visits to keep on top of their changing inventory – I almost didn’t recognise the store from your shots because it has changed so much since my visit.
Beautiful store, love the blending of full span of 20th C decor!
thanks for sharing, see you there soon.
Thank you for the awesome write up and compliments!
We love what we do and love it even more when others appreciate it.
Will have to work on that tarzan yell.
