Spotlight: Urban Case
I discovered Seattle-based furniture company Urban Case at ICFF, and while I like all their products, my favorite is the melli compact lounge. The wall cabinet, which is stylish, utilitarian and just a little kitschy, should be in every home. That’s right – every home (including my home, generous friends).
Founded by Darin Montgomery in 2002, Urban Case creates functional, yet stylish products for people seeking a pared down aesthetic. The 2009 series reinterprets safety-related items as everyday objects.
I predict the melli compact lounge will be the IPhone of home furniture; an entire eco-system of companies will form to create ancillary products – interior lighting, different shelving styles, funny exterior attachments . . . I’ll go a step further and say I think this cabinet will save the economy.
