Open House: Pat’s Bathroom Makeover
The first Strange Closets Open House was the first place I remember living – my Mom’s bungalow During a visit home I started snapping photos with my little point and shoot and found that I was really enjoying myself (completely unaware of how that act would literally change my life).
Pat (don’t call her Mom; only I can call her that*) has been dreaming about a classic bathroom since I was smuggling bottles of booze and packs of cigarettes upstairs with my comic books and wallpaper rolls, so it was great to hear that she finally bought the materials and hired a local handyman to do the job (he charged only slightly more than we city dwellers pay for an estimate).
Pat replaced the tan linoleum flooring with classic hexagon tile and the vinyl shower lining with smooth white ceramic subway tile. To complete the transformation my DIY-inclined madre painted the vanity black, changed the art, replaced the window shades and added wainscoting. The classic bath is a perfect fit in this classic bungalow. Pat deserves it; she’s the best Mom a smart-ass kid (or a smart-ass adult) could ever want.
* BTW, my mom also makes the best cookies ever. Yes, better than your mom’s cookies.

That looks great. The black paint and hardware make the vanity look like an expensive piece. The tile looks good too. Your mom has it goin’ on.
Looks great! Seems like great taste runs in the family!
I want that perfect shower!
Your mom has good “design genes”, some of which you have clearly inherited! A comfortable, attractive and still-functional bathroom has resulted.
As for the cookies, I’m quite the champ myself and actually invented a kind new to our household over the Christmas holidays. So, I’d be very interested to know what kinds of cookies Pat, aka your mom, makes.
