Guest Post: Diana Durkes of Fine Diving in Chicago on “A Green Horizon”

I’d like to thank Diana Durkes who writes the terrific blog Fine Diving in Chicago for contributing this piece about Wilmette’s new eco-boutique A Green Horizon.  If you aren’t reading Fine Diving in Chicago, check it out.  If you’ve ever picked up a chair in the alley only to see it languish in storage because you didn’t know how to fix it (or worse, just let it sit in the trash), Fine Diving in Chicago is the blog for you.

When she’s not out diving, Diana collects birds nests, is a closet fan of pigeons and has a basement full of chairs (literally) to be rehabbed (hmm . . . what’s your address Diana?  And when might be the best time to catch you not home?).  She loves surface patterns, the decorative arts (especially the Art Institute collection) and  . . . don’t know if I can type this . . . loves . . . Chicago winters.  Ugh!!!  See?  Quirky.  I love it.  OK Diana, take it away . . .

Cool and thoughtful green design has a new home in a shop in Wilmette called A Green Horizon. There’s something wonderfully fresh about the collection of eco-friendly home products that store owner Jennifer Kirkpatrick has put together.  Prior to opening her doors in October, Jennifer attened Journalism School at the University of Denver, worked in Advertising and earned an MBA.  She’s always had a commitment to a happy, earth-friendly home and finally decided to help others do the same.

Stop by and check out all that A Green Horizon has to offer.

"Just do a little bit every day" is part of Jennifer's philosophy for sustainability. The cozy organic linens can do a lot for both the user and the planet.

A Green Horizon also stocks one of my favorite recycled products, Paperforms 3D tiles. These are made from waste paper and can transform a wall or room in minutes. I'd put these over my modern fireplace if I had one
