Open House: Seth and Marc’s Downtown Digs
Thanks to regular contributor and the Found founder Albert Tanquero (who has spent the past few weeks soaking up the sunshine in Mexico*) for introducing me to today’s Open House subjects Marc and Seth. The Manhattan transplants met Albert at the Chicago Antique Market when they bought a set of mugshots from the well-known ephemera dealer. Featuring a rather motley crew of folks whose crimes seem rather insignificant and frankly, kind of funny, the framed and hung mugshots make an unusual and intriguing art installation. For all you kids, please don’t misunderstand; crime should not to be taken lightly, and it’s important to follow the law to the letter. Just ask our state’s fine example, Illinois Governor Blagojevich (and his pet hair).
The gents, who moved to Chicago nearly two years, are still having fun exploring the city. “Everyone is nice. There is beautiful architecture. It’s clean. The lake (in the summer). Chicago is a mini New York in so many ways: great restaurants, shopping, and the arts are all here.” They’re also loving their condo in the Helmut Jahn designed glass and steel tower at 600 N. Fairbanks, which they purchased after falling in love with the building, the spectacular views and the convenient downtown location.
Continued . . .
Despite all Chicago has to offer, they miss friends and family, good Chinese food, diners, New York pizza, good bagels, the ability to do almost anything 24/7, Central Park and (notice the quotes) “stylish people.” (On behalf of we Chicagoans . . . uh, thanks?)
In all fairness, the guys know something about style. Seth is a VP at a large advertising agency; Marc works at Ralph Lauren. But when it comes to their new home, leave your style at the door . . . or at least your heels, a prospect that left one recent party guest feeling a bit perturbed.**
“Sorry, we don’t want any stiletto marks in our hardwood,” explains Seth.
Amen brother! Welcome to Chicago.
* Hey Albert, spare me the “gosh it’s so great and warm here” emails. I happen to enjoy the winter. In fact, you’re so missing out on this really great dramatic winter weather. To inquire about Albert’s mugshots (which are going fast), email him at tanquerochicago@gmail.com.
** Speaking of NY and stilettos, wasn’t this the plot of a Sex and the City episode?

I love the stove with red knobs, the white wall with shelves and TV hole, the view !!!!!!!!!! and the little dog.
I will say that they aren’t the same as H&H bagels, but try some from New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy east of the Edens. They boil the bagel dough before baking which is the key to a good bagel.
Great place – love the clean lines and pops of color.
Fabulous apartment, amazing views, these two guys have great taste; take it from one who knows!
I love these guys. They both have such great ideas and collaborate well together. There details are great all over the home. We need more NY boys to jazz up this city in design. Thanks Marc and Seth!
