Moooi Horse Lamp – Decoratus Absurdum? Midwest Chicago Home says yes!

And I agree. I finally had an opportunity to read my new Midwest Chicago Home this weekend and was surprised to see this Moooi horse lamp (available locally at Haute Living) classified as an example of Decoratus Absurdum.

On his deliciously readable design blog, “Strange Closets,” local writer Tate Gunnerson has coined a new term we love: Decoratus Absurdum. As Gunnerson puts it, Decoratus Absurdum is “sort of like the famous quote about the definition of porn—I can’t explain it, but I know it when I see it.” Generally, he’s talking skulls, animal interpretations, religious kitsch, gun-shaped vases, taxidermy—anything that says “weird, but just right.” The matte-black Horse Lamp by Moooi (shown) definitely fits.
