Open House: Chad and Neil’s Lincoln Square Deal
Like most couples, Chad and Neil had very different ideas about what constitutes the perfect home when they moved into their Lincoln Square apartment three years ago. Chad dreamed of modern sophistication while Neil, who grew up in a Connecticut home that was built in 1791, favored a more rustic aesthetic.
Fortunately, they both got what they wanted (and if they’re like my friends, both let the other think they’ve made the ultimate sacrifice). Chad and Neil’s home feels perfectly pulled together. The spacious 2 bedroom unit includes a large sun porch, a formal dining room and even an enclosed back porch.
Chad and Neil faux-finished the wall behind their living room sofa, a textural effect which mimics grass cloth wallpaper and which acts as the single most important design element that unites the couples opposing decorating ideas. A formal lamp sits underneath a funky pair of antlers, reinforcing the concept.
Neil, a landscape designer with the City of Chicago, took full advantage of the back deck by creating a garden retreat, which spills out into the enclosed back yard. It’s no wonder the couple gets along so well with their landlord.

I love their place, including, but not limited to, the paintings and the sofa.
Now this is a nice place!!!!! I don’t suppose there are other units for rent in that building?
Great place. Gives a real feeling of comfort and home.
Ugh, more antlers.
cozy, yet still contemporary. It’s nice to see original art on the walls
What a great sense of synergy! Would love to have their decorating ideas implemented in my studio sometime.
LOVE IT!!!! This is the type of place Carrie Bradshaw would live in before she ended up with Mr. Big. This is the type of place I love- it’s tasteful, stylish, unprentenious, livable and lived in, and just sits nicely on the eye. Good work guys. AND LOVE THE NEW CAMERA T.
